Cochrane's leads express freight market in SA with the acquisition of Northern Kope Parcel Express.
The Chairman and owner of Cochrane's, Peter Cochrane, was delighted to announce the successful acquisition of Northern Kope Parcel Express from the Parcel Direct Group. The addition of this strong business with over 2,500 customers and 50 staff further enhances Cochrane's leadership of the express freight market in regional South Australia, and also returns Northern Kope to a private and independently owned company.
Northern Kope had previously been purchased in 2008 by the Parcel Direct Group - a joint venture between DHL Worldwide Express and New Zealand Post. Following an announcement in January 2011 that the group would be sold, Cochrane's saw the opportunity to further expand its own business and capabilities to customers. In announcing the addition, Peter Cochrane stated "the synergies and scale that our combined business can deliver to customers in South Australia is significant. Northern Kope has built a strong and loyal base of customers in much the same way that Cochrane's has over the journey".
Initially, Northern Kope will remain at its current Wingfield site, however work will commence on the Cochrane's precinct to allow the business to merge in the future in order to capitalise on the tremendous opportunities that the combined entity has.
