Cochrane's record of providing on-time service to Australia Post in servicing Broken Hill from Adelaide has been rewarded with a new contract.
The 1,100km round trip daily is the most demanding run that Cochrane's operates for Australia Post, including 8 stops on the outward trip and 22 on the return leg. It is a road which is taxing on both trucks and drivers, with road conditions and wildlife a constant challenge. Australia Post have always acknowledged this risk, and in renewing the contract have agreed to critical changes to the vehicle types and fatigue management requirements that Cochrane's sought to implement.
Bruce Hampson, CEO of Cochrane's recognised that "Australia Post have shown a genuine concern for the safety of our drivers and their well-being, by providing schedule changes that ensure adequate rest and the ability to restructure the run to allow larger vehicles more suitable for the task. Collaboration of this nature is a critical component of our shared Chain of Responsibility obligations".
Over the coming months as new equipment comes on line, Cochrane's will be in a position to significantly increase its freight carrying capacity on this lane which will provide tangible benefits for our 2,500 customers.
